Earlier this year, Motorola released the Atrix, a device that is one of a kind in the fact that it could plug into a laptop dock and run it using the powerful dual core Tegra 2 processor. The idea did not take off, mainly due to the fact that the dock is prohibitively expensive
Now, Asus, the creator of the Transformer tablet that can "transform" from a tablet to a laptop has released a new design that demonstrates a similar concept, only this time with a phone that powers a tablet.
It seems that the phone will connect to the tablet via micro HDMI and USB. The phone will provide the processing power, and the tablet will presumably provide some extra battery life. The tablet has a hole so that the phone's camera can still take photos. The phone is contained in a hatch on the back of the device
The only released specs for the device are a 10.1 inch screen on the tablet and a 4.3 inch one on the phone. Asus will reportedly release the device around Christmas, not any sooner due to the fact that Ice Cream Sandwich, its reported OS, won't be released until late this year. If Asus plans to release it any sooner, it will have to run Gingerbread, as Honeycomb is not available for phones.
