The Newbie Jailbreaking Guide.

If you want to jailbreak but have heard things that may seem frighting, then fear not, this guide will cure your troubles and tell you the truth about jailbreaking.
  • There are two types of jailbreaks, Tethered and Untethered, tethered is where every time your device powers down (full shutdown), or loses battery power, you must connect it to a computer and run the jailbreak software to turn it on. Untethered is where you can reboot, turn off or do anything and do not have to connect it to a computer to power on.
  • It is true that jailbreaking voids your warranty but, restoring to the original Apple Firmware restores you warranty.
  • DO NOT BELIEVE the myths that jailbreaking will make you iDevice crash or uses a lot of memory. On the contrary, you device will only crash if you install a corrupt package from Cydia (more on Cydia later) and jailbreaking only uses about 50-75 Mb of space, but this does not count packages you can get from Cydia.
  • Many people like to say that jailbreaking can sometimes cause your iDevice to become slow or laggy, this also is false, jailbreaking has nothing to do with this, it is what you do with your jailbreak that can cause it to become slow.
Now, lets talk about Cydia. Cydia is the app store for jailbroken devices; Cydia includes apps such as MyWi, which lets you create a personal wi-fi hotspot with your iPhone without paying extra from your carrier, or FaceBreak, which lets you Face-Time over a 3G service. The possibilities are endless, so if you are convinced about jailbreaking then just go and do it!
