How to Root your Android 2.2/2.3 Smartphone

Rooting is a process that allows one to gain full access to their phone, allowing customizations that their stock brethren will never see. Unfortunately, rooting can be a confusing and time consuming process, and that's where we come in. In our step by step instructions, we will explain how to get root access to one's phone.

Step one- Download the .apk file for gingerbreak from XDA developers. We will be using gingerbreak to root because it is one of the more up to date root methods, although there are many other methods

Step two- Transfer the .APK file to your android phone using Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine. For  a guide on how to use this program click here.

Step three- If step two was completed correctly, Gingerbreak should show up as app in your app drawer. For step three, make sure that your phone is connected to your computer, USB debugging is enabled, and you have an external SD card in your phone. Then run Gingerbreak. This may take up to 15 minutes. When it is finished rooting, the phone will reboot.

Be warned, as gingerbreak may delete all data on your internal phone storage.

Now that wasn't so hard, was it? Now you will be able to exploit the full power of your android phone.
